So what does it all mean it all looks a bit foreign to me?
Well if you're not a native of Ireland it will no doubt look strange to you. Geansai and gorm are in actual fact two irish words. The first being the Irish for Jumper and the second being the irish for blue. So yes ... you guess it right it means blue jumper
Well Geansai Gorm is no more and my original deadline to get TaskDrop up and running has come and it doesn’t look like i’ll hit the deadline (Thats the problem with pesky deadlines)
I’m going to be removing all the old content as well shortly (Maybe archive it just for posterity I’ve yet to decide) (Would you believe I have to figure out how to archive old stuff … well actually how to redirect old stuff with 301s in wordpress)
And so far the geansai gorm listings look pretty much like they did last night. (unfortunately for me)
With less than 24 hours when I made my final push it would appear it was too little too late. Ah well.
What didn’t I do. Well it would appear the social media profiles for one thing. I’m unsure how much of an effect they would have had but they do tend to get indexed pretty regularly by the engines. (I also didn’t want to go to the hastle of setting up all those accounts. I can barely keep track of the ones I have let alone a load of Geansai Gorm ones )
Apart from that I’d guess the tipping points would have been just that little bit of extra link juice from other sites. I think I’ve only linked in from about 5 of my sites (though it may be a few more … 7 ? ) and the few forums I’m a part of.
Obviously the biggest factor you’ll have noted was the link text that people linked in with. The term people wanting to do well for being “Geansai Gorm” the link text obviously being Geansai Gorm if at all possible.
Anyways its breakfast time. One has to make do with the little things …
You’d be forgiven if you thought it was an episode from South Park … no I’m not saying Timmy I’m saying Geansai Gorm. Quite possibly in the same voice as Timmy though you obviously can’t hear it.
Its drawing to a close less than 24 hours left. Which makes it less than 48 hours for me to have the new Task Drop website up and running. As it currently stands I’ve about 22 items on my main work task list and I’m hoping to get a few of them finished off in the next little while. (ie tonight) Doubtful I’ll get much of a chance to do anything further with TaskDrop and I actually expect the person who holds the number 1 place at 9 in the morning to be the one who wins.
Obviously the whole competition has been quite interesting in some ways annoying in others. Its given a chance to see what the competition are doing. Though to be honest if you didn’t already know then you’d probably have had more difficulty than most in the competition. I’ve seen some of the spam techniques used by others and my quite surprised that people still use them. I’m guilty myself of linking from my main sites not to mention my signatures on the various boards I’m a member of (though not actually that many)
However SEO is a weird one. One day the spammer will be number one. The next they’ll take a major hit by google and drop a hell of a lot of places. So far I’ve only had success so to speak.
Unfortunately the competition wasn’t exactly highly contested as well. I’m not sure how many official entries there are ? I counted about 12 or so I guess ? With a lot more Shrapnel from blogs and other peoples wanting their own main sites to do well or gain some link juice from people visiting or commenting on their sites.
My own tactics have also been pretty obvious as well. 1 or two heavy hitting links and board sigs coupled with a few posts on my personal blogs. I didn’t go the route of spamming various sits with pointless comments and links back though obviously if you were selling a proper product its exactly what you’d be trying to do. Though spam is probably too strong a word as its link building within social media.
Anyways I’d better end my small rant. I may post some more I may not. Its dinner time … a glass of white awaits me and a blanquette as well and I think we’ll watch a movie afterwards.
Well a brief note to say that I’m going to try getting busy and updating the site in the run up to the close of Geansai Gorm there have been a few interesting forum posts around if you’ve been following things. Personally I’ve not had time to do anything the last week or two so one would have noticed some slippage in the ranks which is only to be expected. While I’ve thought about creating various groups on various social media I just can’t really be bothered. I’m going to test out a few things over the last few days and hopefully its enough to push the site over the top to the acclaimed -1 position
Best of luck to everyone involved. It’ll be interesting to see with a few more days how the likes of Geansaí Gorm do. I look on with interest. Hopefully as well I’ll get some time to tweak TaskDrop some more and have it ready for the december 2nd release though at the moment god alone knows whether it’ll be possible.
What do you get when your Geansai Gorm fans take it a step too far ?
You end up getting something a bit like this
Of course its a good job he wasn’t wearing a Geansai in the following video
You can already see way too many dark patches of gorm underneath the arm pits.
Still … this is the power of Geansai Gorm that is sweeping a nation. When you believe in the power of Geansai Gorm you may find you even change. Of course saying Geansai and Gorm together in the music video wouldn’t work quite as well as its rather more complicated to say repeatedly but we expect a fan to start a music video similar to this one soon.
Well its actually been a very slow week in terms of changes to the site I’m afraid. The old adage if it ain’t broke don’t fix it came into play not to mention I’ve been busy with the real Geansai Gorm app. Task Drop V0.0.1
Those following my personal site would have seen some mention of Task Drop already. I’ve now gotten the original app nicely tweaked up to what I’m calling version 0.0.1 Its by no means finished but those I’ve shown it to so far really like it (One wants it live so they can use it for themselves). Hopefully I get the time to properly package it up and release it for my December second deadline that I’ve set. I thought it might be best not to release it on the 1st. What with the competition for Geansai Gorm going on. I’ve the website idea already thought out. I just need the time.
Geansai Gorm Beta V0.0.1
You may note the app isn’t very gorm. Its actually taken on the Forbairt colours from my logo a bit more though it looks quite good to me all the same. Maybe I’ll release a theme called “Geansai Gorm” in its honour.
With regards to the competition, its pretty much taken a back burner the last week though I was happy to see I maintained the number 1 spot for most of the week, I believe I’m now dropped to second place not that surprising really. I’ve not exactly being doing any link building and if anything I helped out a new entrant Cormac hopefully a small bit. His new Geansaí Gorm website (note the fada) seems to have made a nice dent into the competition. Given its late arrival I’m hoping it does well. Its completely as gaeilge and I’m looking forward to seeing if it can win. I’m jealous actually truth be told that my own Irish isn’t up to scratch to have made my own entry all in Irish. Ah well maybe its time to get to Aras na nGael a bit more when I’m down in Galway or maybe even look into getting involved in some way with some of the events organised by the Conradh.
Hopefully if I get the time I’ll make a bit of a push the last week and see if I can’t make a shot at the title
Why not start your Caturday with a bit of Sarah Palin humour
If she’d only been wearing a Geansai Gorm I’d have been a lot happier. Anyways without further ado … here is the latest from the taskdrop Geansai Gorm humour archive.
My god even my cat is starting to help out with the competition. Here you can see him sporting a lovely Pur.. er .. Gorm jumper. He’s really quite partial to a nap on a nice Geansai Gorm so if you ever feel the need for a nap during the day there’s nothing quite like a lovely blue jumper to snuggle up into. (At least thats what the cat tells me)
Basically a Geansai is a sweater, pullover, jumper or jersey. Normally it covers the arms unlike a t-shirt. Older times saw Geansais mainly made from wool. These days you'll find the majority are made from cotton or synthetic fibres.
